CMFRT Weighted Blanket Review

CMFRT seem to be a firm focused on low-cost weighted blankets. They offer a range of weights and sizes, though the size and weight are tied to one another for the most part. Even with that caveat, there are far more weights available than is the norm at this price point. There are a few features of this build that don’t show up elsewhere, including one that I thought relegated to mattresses only, and it elevates the entire design. The company does not appear to have a bespoke site, satisfied with selling on Amazon only, but that suits me fine. I have talked about the major benefits of buying from an Amazon FBA, especially when the warranty is poor, which it is across the board for weighted blankets. This might be the right weighted blanket for you, but first, we have to figure out if a weighted blanket is something you need.

CMFRT Weighted Blanket Build Quality & Materials

Like buses, you wait all day for a weighted blanket with a removable cover, and two come by at the same time. Last week I got a Zona weighted blanket, and it came with a removable poly blend cover. The same is true here, but rather than a polka dot of poly mink fabric, here we have an entire site devoted to the stuff. I prefer cotton, but the poly blend can feel better, especially the mink-like stuff, and it is easier to clean. This makes the CMFRT double as a sensory blanket and seen as CMFRT offer 5lbs and 8lbs blankets, it makes this single design work wonderfully for children with spectrum disorders.

The other side of the cover is amazing, clima-cool cotton is cotton that has been infused with a cooling material, so in those summer months, you don’t overheat. Many weighted blankets claim that you will not get too hot in them, but that is just not the case for the poly-fil builds. This is an excellent touch and really helps the CMFRT stand out in a fairly crowded market. In terms of aesthetics, this is a bit different from other builds, the pockets are smaller, and the underside is a nice electric blue. Overall I love the outside of this one.

Inside the good times continue to roll, with 100% pure cotton. Pretty standard, I know, but always good to see. The weight is added via poly pellets, which usually are not quite as good as glass, but here the weight distribution issue is offset by a smaller pocket size, this provides a feel that is remarkably similar to the more expensive option. The major benefits of plastic beads are still here, able to be machine dried, on a low heat, which you can’t do with a glass option. It is of course, also hypoallergenic. There are six size and weight options available, covering a large swath of the market for a change. The smallest is the 41″ x 56″ at 5 lb or 8lbs, next is the 48″ x 78″ at 12 lb, and finally the 60″x80″ at 16 lb, 22lbs and 25lbs. 16lbs and 22lbs are rare weights to see unless you go with a bespoke option, so the CMFRT has a bit of a leg up on the competition. If you buy for a child, having the option to buy the heavier blankets as they age out of the old one is nice, and something that most prefab sellers don’t think about.

CMFRT Weighted Blanket Overall Review

This is a superb weighted blanket, a nice design that caters to everyone on the market, and a fine range of sizes. I obviously prefer a full gamut of weights and sizes, but for a prefab build, these are excellent. The dual layer removable cover is a cut above the rest, and the small pocket poly pellet design on the inside gives us an excellent overall feel. If you fall into the right weight range there are few builds out there to match this one. But how much does it cost?

CMFRT Weighted Blanket Pricing & Returns Policy

The price here is exactly what I wanted, hitting the average across the board, and when combined with the feature set it becomes all the more attractive. The lightest build is sitting pretty at $89.99, that’s the 5lbs build. The 8lbs model is $99.99. The 12lbs is $159.99, 16lbs is $169.99, 22lbs is $179.99 and the 25lbs is $189.99. In the lower and mid-weight, we are seeing the average, but that 25lbs model is a good $50 lower than similar models on the market right now. If you fall into that weight range then I have to recommend you seriously consider this build.

The warranty is what one would expect. Not great. A simple 1 year of limited coverage, as is standard in the business, and this only covers factory faults. I recommend you check your blanket thoroughly when you get it. On the plus side CMFRT are an Amazon FBA, so if you do come across issues with the seller you have Amazon on your side. They have some of the best consumer protection policies on the market, and in the past, I have made great use of them. I don’t expect any issues though, but then that’s because I didn’t have any. The peace of mind is useful at the very least.

CMFRT Weighted Blanket – Is it Worth it in 2018?

This came as a bit of a surprise. I did not expect a prefab build to impress me as much as this one did. The cover materials are excellent, with clear positives to their design choices. It is versatile, with a build that works for children and adults, and the range of sizes available cover pretty much everyone. Obviously, a bespoke fitted weighted blanket addresses your needs more directly, but this is a great option for a generalist. The price is amazing, with the heavier the blanket the better the saving. I imagine that will change though, as they review their pricing policy. If you are in the market for a weighted blanket then you have to check this one out, and if you are looking for a nice big heavy weighted blanket this might be the best choice on the market.

Why Should I Buy a Weighted Blanket?

When I first looked into weighted blankets I could not believe the amount of benefits they supposedly had. They were touted as being almost magical, able to help anyone fall asleep, lessen stress throughout the day, even help with concentration. So I spent some time filtering through all the claims and looking into the science. What I discovered was fascinating. For the most part, those claims are all true, for a given amount of truth. In the early days, the research was focused on the effects on children, specifically those with attention disorders or those on the autistic spectrum. The results proved that weighted blankets, and clothing, relieved the issues those children experienced.

It seems it is all down to the hug response. When pressure is applied to the body it releases serotonin, and this is a godsend for serotonin starved disorders. The latterday studies I have checked out show that weighted blankets are effective in combating anxiety, depression, anger issues and insomnia and that these effects even work on those without a disorder, though to a lesser degree. I think it fairly safe to say that if you are looking up weighted blankets you are having some trouble sleeping, and I can attest to their effectiveness, and so too can the science. I have written a write up on the concept here on site, with all the sources there for you to peruse at your leisure.

Our Take
The CMFRT weighted blanket differs in looks from much of the competition, which is refreshing. However it lacks in size and weight options available. But if you're looking for a blanket that stands out from the rest in looks, this may be a good option for you.
