ZonLi Blanket Review

Little left to test beyond a few prefab builds on Amazon now. The ZonLi build is exactly what I expected it to be. A broad spectrum option that caters to as many folks as possible, but lacks the nuance that you get when you purchase a custom weighted blanket. I have a half dozen blankets of equivalent quality in the house right now, and the only real thing that differentiates them is the price, and even then, only by a little. Before we get to the review proper let’s ask ourselves…

Why Should I Buy a Weighted Blanket?

There are a variety of reasons to get a weighted blanket. When I first read up on them I could not believe the supposed positive medical benefits, but a week or so of research pulled up study after study demonstrating why they work. Much of the early research was focused on the effects on children with attention disorders, or those on the Autistic Spectrum, but as the years wore on, more and more studies on the effects of weighted blankets on adults were conducted. It seems they work on the same principles as a hug, with the pressure releasing serotonin. This makes it easier to sleep, stems anger, and reduces the severity of anxiety and depression.

I have written a fairly detailed article, with all the sources, for this site, so if you want to read up for yourself please check that out. There are a number of things to take into account before purchasing though. Weighted blankets come in all shapes and sizes, and you don’t want to buy one that is larger than your bed, nor one that is greater or lesser than 10% of your body weight, else the effects will be mitigated.

About ZonLi

ZonLi makes no attempt to hide what they are. They are a Chinese firm, selling in the US market. It means that we are looking at a less than stellar aftersale support network, but that is mitigated by an excellent price. There are a number of facets to the firm that mitigates that major issue though. being an Amazon FBA means that we all gain access to Amazon’s excellent customer support services. Unlike other firms, they specialize in weighted blankets, so the manufactory is close to them, and they make sure that the end product is up to a certain standard.

ZonLi Weighted Blanket Build Quality & Materials

Off the bat is the cover material, and here we have the best material. 100% pure cotton. I call it is the best because it lands in that nice middle ground between comfort, durability, and porousness. I was lucky enough to get to review mattresses in the past, and I know from experience that cotton is a cut above. It’s actually a bit of a surprise here, as with most of these low-cost import builds, you get a poly blend, which is more durable, but lacks the porousness of cotton. Aesthetically we have three colors to choose from, grey, navy and brown. I have yet to see brown from any other firm, so a bit of a boon to ZonLi, but overall the lack of options is a bit of a black mark. The cover is not removable either, making cleaning a bit of an issue. On the plus side, the overall material choices do make cleaning a little easier.

On the inside, we have a continuation of the old. Cotton, but segmented, and filled with poly for warmth. Honestly, there isn’t much to separate this from other builds, but it is at least well crafted. The weight is added via the plastic pellets, and I am a fan. I prefer glass, but those come with some caveats that most would be unwilling to deal with. The use of plastic here applies pressure in a fairly uniform way, while also being machine washable and dryable. if you need to clean the blanket often, you have that option here. There are only two size options available, 48″ x 72″ and 60″ x 80″. They come in both a 15 lbs weight and a 20 lbs weight, but this is a problem for me. I sleep in a fairly large bed but am small, thus I need something closer to 12lbs than 15lbs. the blanket was far too heavy for me, but my partner found it met their needs. This lack of options is going to be an issue for some folk, but if you have a large enough bed, and are in the 140 to the 210lbs range then this is a fine option.

ZonLi Weighted Blanket Overall Review

A good cover material and a small number of color options make for a nice blanket on the outside, but the lack of a removable cover and the small number of weight and size options make this far more niche than any niche products wants to be. I like the build, there is little to call out, but if you do not fall into the rigid range defined by this one then you are going to have to look elsewhere for a blanket that better fits your needs.

ZonLi Weighted Blanket Pricing & Returns Policy

Pricing here varies by size and weight, but the smallest lightest options is a mere $138, and that is a 15lbs model. That is far below the norm in this size range, making it an excellent option for those wishing to test out a weighted blanket, and happen to fall into the right range. The heaviest largest blanket is sitting in the $180 price range, which is again lower than most. I have to say, this changes things. If you want to try out a blanket then is a great option.

The warranty is another story though. This is not a homegrown firm, meaning that you get a mere 1 year of limited coverage and lackluster after sale support. But we knew that going in. When you buy a low-cost import item you sacrifice something, and I am glad it isn’t quality. Here we have Amazon to back us up though. If you do have an issue with your purchase then a simple complaint to Amazon will sort you out. their customer support policies are second to none right now, and I have made use of them on a number of occasions.

The ZonLi Blanket – Is it Worth it in 2018?

Hard to say to be honest. I can see the market for it, but only if you fall into a narrow range. The materials used are great, and the price is out of this world, but I am a big fan of the bespoke options. I have been using my blanket for a few months at this point, and there is nothing here that makes me want to make the switch. if you are new to the world of weighted blankets then this might be a good first buy, but for those looking to upgrade you are better off looking elsewhere.

Our Take
ZonLi offers yet another affordable option for an entry-level weighted blanket. The availability of color, weight and size options is nice but the blankets lack some of the premium features you'd find with a more expensive blanket.
