Hello!

I’m Ashley. Welcome to my first review blog!

I’m a pretty typical busy woman juggling a family, a home, and a full-time job.  Sleep had become a challenge for me and I wasn’t sure if it was because of the pace I keep up or my anxiety, or my entry into peri-menopause, or all of the above. It wasn’t until the hot flashes and night sweats kicked in that I decided I needed to find a solution.  So I tried just about everything including melatonin, magnesium and meditation but nothing truly helped. And then I discovered weighted blankets.  After weeks of research, shopping, snuggling and sleeping (and returns), I finally found one that worked, and shortly after, decided I would share my experience.  If I can help others find the same relief I have without having to go through all the trial and error that I did, mission accomplished. Here’s my honest POV!

Knit Weighted Blanket

Hands-down this was my favorite – here’s why:

The Other Blankets I Reviewed

My Runner-Up

Baloo Weighted Blanket
Good alternative but not as breathable

If I were to have gone with a traditional weighted blanket this would be my pick.  It’s soft, but I don’t like the feel of the the filler beads and it’s not as breathable or comfortable as the Nuzzie Knit option.

My 3rd Choice

Luxome Weighted Blanket
A distant 3rd choice; I expected more

I was curious about this brand because everything on the site looks so high end and “luxe.” But I was disappointed.  Again, I did not like that I can feel the beads when I wrap myself up in this blanket and it was just too hot.

My Least Favorite

Casaluna Solid Knit Weighted Blanket,
 My least favorite

I wanted to see if a cheaper option to the Nuzzie Knit style would be as compelling for me, …but the short answer is no, it was just too small and did not come close!

This was me the day the blankets arrived at my house!! And my testing began immediately.

Why A
Weighted Blanket

Let’s take a minute to talk about the appeal of weighted blankets and why I was so excited to purchase one…

Weighted blankets are primarily a therapeutic blanket designed to support physical and mental health. They use gentle, evenly distributed weight to apply what’s known as deep pressure stimulation (DPS).

This type of pressure signals the nervous system to relax, helping the body shift out of “fight or flight” mode into a calmer, more restful state.

The most common benefit of weighted blankets is better, faster sleep.  Experts have shown through research that people tend to fall asleep more quickly and experience deeper, more restorative sleep throughout the night – and I’ve read a lot of accounts where people say this is absolutely true.

The steady pressure reduces tossing and turning, and helps the body feel grounded and secure.

An additional benefit of weighted blankets was recently introduced and is being talked about by experts and consumers – and that is the positive effect of knit weighted blankets on women experiencing hot flashes while sleeping (“night sweats”).   This is what sold me on the concept!

The knit weighted blanket styles are more breathable thanks to the wide/open knitting design, so while they hug the body they also allow for air flow that can be a cooling mechanism when body temperature rises.  Some of the non-knit, “traditional” weighted blankets come in a bamboo material which is more breathable and allows for cooling, but the closed-knit design of those styles prevent air flow and therefore are not as effective in managing flash increases in body temperature.

My 8-Point

Testing Criteria

All blankets were reviewed using the same set of essential performance and comfort criteria. This ensured a clear, side-by-side comparison you can trust.

Why the

Knit Weighted Blanket
is the best

This blanket checked all the boxes for me, meeting 8 out of 8 of my Testing Criteria points with only 1 “thumbs down”.

Look how gorgeous this blanket is on my bed!

My Runner-Up

Weighted Blanket

While this was my second choice (because the material was nice and soft), I did not like how the filler bead material (used for weight/pressure) felt on my body and it’s not as breathable as the Nuzzie Knit Weighted Blanket.  I also didn’t think the look was appealing – it’s like any other blanket.

I had to see the filler material for myself so I cut into the blanket (which confirmed my preference for a knit weighted style vs. use of filler beads!).

My 3rd Choice

Weighted Blanket

I was excited to shop the Luxome site because everything seems so “luxe”, including the weighted blanket.  I went with the blanket + removable cover made with Bamboo Lyocell and with a minky finish.  This is another traditional weighted blanket (using beads for the fill material) and has great reviews so I figured why not?

I wanted to share the reality of selecting the blanket insert + removable cover because it’s very similar to a Duvet – which can be a real pain if you have to remove and then re-insert!

Knit Weighted Blanket

Including a cheaper option for a knit weighted blanket in my review was a last-minute decision. I don’t think spending $200 for something like this is crazy, but I am aware that cheaper options exist, so I felt compelled to try one.  I chose Casaluna primary for the look, price and convenience of it being available at Target.  I was uncertain about the smaller size but again, thought I’d try it – to see if a ”throw” option would work for me. This one is just too small (and doesn’t have the same quality or effect).

Sharing this photo to show the difference in knitting between the Casaluna blanket (beige; on the left) and the nuzzie blanket (taupe; on the right).  This is why the nuzzie blanket is more breathable!
